COST: Simulated flawless diamonds cost considerably less than natural, mined diamonds.  Whereas consumers can expect to pay $3,000 - $40,000 for 1-3 carat diamond rings, simulated diamond rings range from as little as $100 - $1,000.  The ability to produce simulated gems to the preferred size and shape for the perfect cut makes the process extremely cost efficient, so consumers pay a tenth of what they would in purchasing a real diamond.  If the intent is to purchase jewelry that will last a lifetime and be passed down through generations, resale value is not an issue. 

QUALITY:  Compared to mined diamonds, simulated flawless diamonds also rank high in hardness, color, clarity, and brilliance.  In relation to mined diamonds, with a mineral hardness of 10 (Mohs scale from 1-10), the simulant ranks 9.7.   Cultivating flawless diamonds in a lab allows the gem to be produced completely colorless (ranking "D," the highest on the diamond scale from D-Z) and perfect in clarity - completely flawless, whereas mined diamonds display variation in color and contain slight blemishes.  Like a perfect diamond, the colorless simulant reflects white light into a prism of color, creating the highly desired "fire" effect.  With the naked eye, there is no way to tell the difference between a mined diamond and simulated stone. A jeweler can tell, looking at a gem through a loupe, that the gem is simulated simply because it is more perfect than an actual diamond. LESS FEAR AND WORRY: Because simulated flawless diamond jewelry does not cost thousands or tens of thousands of dollars, there is less fear of losing the jewelry.  People don´t need to be afraid to wear their jewelry for fear that a clasp may come loose.  When traveling there´s less worry about the jewelry left at home and the jewelry taken along.  Lock boxes and safe security boxes aren´t essential.  Costly insurance doesn´t need to be purchased.  Imitation diamonds relieve a lot of fear and worry.

EARTH FRIENDLY: Simulated flawless diamonds are produced in lab settings, and production does not disrupt the ecosystem the way that mining for natural diamonds does.  Mining is not always regulated.  Removing top soil to reveal diamonds in tropical regions can upset the plants and animals in the environment.  Almost one hundred years of neglect in Angola has destroyed large lots of land, poisoned the water, and has forced native people to leave. Sierra Leone, the heart of the diamond mining region, has endured a complete loss of fertile agricultural soil to mining waste. The farming fields are left with thousands of mosquito-infested mining pits.

HUMANE:  Diamond mining operations often employ child labor and slave labor under horrifying and humiliating circumstances. After being mined, diamonds are then transported to be cut, often through the slavery of children.  This is practiced in India, where most of the diamonds in the world are cut and polished.  Mined diamonds also fund wars in third-world countries, supporting murder and contributing to genocide.

POLITICALLY CORRECT: Purchasing mined diamonds supports the so-called "diamond cartel." Diamonds are not as rare and, therefore, not as valuable as they are portrayed to be.  They are actually available in mass quantities and would cost much less if it weren´t for the global cartel. Specifically, the DeBeers company holds a monopoly on the product and has controlled the mined diamond market for decades.  They have stockpiled inventory and distribute it in limited quantities, keeping prices unreasonably high.
